UPGRADED BACK — SPFS (7/3): flows have risen over the past few days to ~295 cfs and water clarity has improved after the heavy rains, which has improved the dry-fly fishing. Tricos prevalent in the early mornings; PMDs and caddis in the afternoons. Beyond matching the dry-fly hatches, nymph a girdle bug or stonefly trailed by a smaller mayfly nymph — smaller-diameter tippet and frequent depth adjustments are key. 5/6X fluorocarbon for nymphing; heavier split shot or larger tungsten point flies to get down in the bigger water. Today (Sun Jul 5) ~80°F canyon, mostly sunny — good all-day window on the cold release; scattered storms return Tue–Wed. Holiday-weekend crowds linger.

Fishing has been pretty good this week and the dry-fly game has improved: Tricos early AM, PMDs and caddis in the afternoons. Nymph rig: girdle bug or stonefly + smaller mayfly nymph trailer, 5/6X fluoro, adjust depth frequently, heavier shot/tungsten to get down at these flows. Wading the canyon at ~295 takes care — pick crossings deliberately. Holiday weekend crowds — walk deeper into the canyon for solitude.
