Hatchwise is operated by Tom Baker, a sole proprietor based in Brighton, Colorado. By creating an account or subscribing, you agree to these terms. They're written to be read, not to hide things — if something here isn't clear, email and ask.
Hatchwise is a subscription information service for fly anglers. It gathers live streamflow and water-temperature readings from USGS gauges, forecasts from the National Weather Service, and published fly-shop reports, and presents them alongside a proprietary Fishability Score and an AI assistant called Cody.
It is a planning aid, not a guarantee. We do not promise you will catch fish.
Fishing carries real risk: moving water, cold water, changing weather, wildlife, and remote terrain. Conditions on a river can change faster than any dashboard. You are responsible for your own safety and for judging conditions yourself when you arrive.
Our data comes from third parties — USGS, NOAA/NWS and individual fly shops. Readings can be delayed, gauges fail, and shop reports carry their own dates. The Fishability Score is our own opinion expressed as a number, not a measurement.
You are responsible for following current Colorado Parks & Wildlife regulations, licensing, access rules and closures. Nothing in Hatchwise overrides them, and we do not verify that any water is legally accessible to you.
You need an account to subscribe. Keep your password to yourself — you're responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access. One account is for one person; don't share credentials.
Hatchwise Pro is $14.99 per month or $129 per year. There is no free trial — the dashboard, every river and the Fishability Score are free to browse without an account, and Pro adds Cody plus features described on the pricing page.
Prices are in US dollars and are shown before tax. Sales tax is calculated at checkout based on the billing address you give us and may be added to the price, so the total charged can be higher than the price advertised. Where tax applies it is collected as part of the transaction. The amount depends on where you live and can change if tax rules or your address change.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.
You can cancel any time from Your account → Manage billing. Cancelling stops future renewals and you keep Pro access until the end of the period you've already paid for. We don't pro-rate partial periods except under the guarantee below.
If a payment fails, Stripe retries over roughly three weeks. We keep your Pro access during that window rather than cutting you off immediately. If it ultimately fails, the subscription ends.
We may change pricing. Existing subscribers will be told before a change affects them, and you can cancel rather than accept it.
If Hatchwise doesn't make your next trip better, email support@hatchwise.pro within 30 days of your first payment and we'll refund it in full. No form to fill in and no explanation required, though we'd genuinely like to hear what fell short.
The guarantee applies once per person, to a first subscription. Refunds go back to the original payment method and typically take a few business days to appear.
Please don't:
Fly-shop reports remain the work of the shops that wrote them. We quote them with attribution and a link; that attribution stays with the text.
Cody answers using the live data on the dashboard and is instructed never to invent flows, temperatures or shop reports. It can still be wrong or incomplete. Treat its answers as a knowledgeable opinion, not fact, and verify anything that matters before you rely on it.
Your questions to Cody are sent to Anthropic to generate a reply. Don't put sensitive personal information in them.
Anything you add — saved rivers today, and catch-log entries, notes and photos when those features arrive — belongs to you. You grant us permission to store and process it so the service can work for you.
We may use aggregated, de-identified patterns across many anglers to improve the Fishability Score and future features. That means statistics, never your individual spots tied to you, and never your catch locations shared with other users or sold.
We aim to keep Hatchwise running but don't promise uninterrupted service. It depends on outside systems — USGS, NOAA, Stripe, Supabase, Vercel, Anthropic — that can fail independently of us. We may change or remove features as the product develops.
You can cancel any time and close your account by emailing us. We may suspend or end an account that breaches these terms, or that we reasonably believe is being used fraudulently. If we end your subscription without cause, we'll refund the unused portion.
Hatchwise is provided as-is. To the fullest extent Colorado law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for anything arising from your decisions about where, when or whether to fish. Our total liability in any 12-month period is limited to what you paid us in that period.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, and any dispute will be handled in the courts of Colorado.
We may update these terms as the product changes. The “last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version, and material changes affecting subscribers will be communicated by email before they take effect.
