Melt essentially DONE (~2–3 weeks ahead this year) — clear water, sight-fishing, best dry-fly windows AM/PM (caddis, BWO, midge, terrestrials) · Kirk's July: freestone sections fishing well on large stoneflies, caddis, mayflies & attractors · whole drainage now open

Kirk's 6/1: 'The water is open in the rivers below 8,500 ft. Fishing should be better this week with warmer weather. Rivers fishing decent on warmer days and afternoons. Most alpine lakes ice-free.' Lower Fall (Horseshoe Park, Estes) now accessible and showing early action — small dry-droppers, light nymphs. Hot flies: Double Downs, Pat's Rubber Legs, Hares Ears, Copper Ribbed RS2, Mole Flies, Mighty Mites, Egg patterns, Pheasant Tails, worm patterns. Upper Fall (Lawn Lake corridor) still cold but warm weather is steadily melting it out (Estes ~74°F today, ~73–76°F through the weekend with afternoon storms); the warmth is accelerating the melt — peak RMNP window now opening. Tight casting, spooky fish; stealth and precision win. RMNP timed-entry permit in effect — reservation required 9am-2pm daily May 22 thru Oct 12. Trail Ridge Road open.
