Gore Creek — Vail
● Live flow & water temp from USGS
Early July — runoff receding and dropping into prime shape through the town of Vail. Green Drakes and PMDs on, caddis in the evenings, and Golden Stones / Yellow Sallies along the banks. Wade-friendly Gold Medal water right in town.
Classic early-summer Gore Creek: as runoff drops the creek clears and the Green Drake / PMD dry-fly game turns on, with caddis thick in the evenings. Prospect the pocket water with a Golden Stone or girdle-bug nymph trailed by a PMD or Pheasant Tail; switch to dries when you see noses. Fish the shaded bank seams midday and the tailouts at dusk. Small-stream Gold Medal water right through town — respect private stretches and use the public access points along the Vail rec path.
Gore Creek runs Gold Medal right through Vail, so access is easy off the rec path but pressure is real near the village — walk to reach less-fished pocket water. Flows drop and clarity improves through July; Green Drakes are the marquee hatch. Trip tip: pair a morning on Gore in town with an afternoon on the bigger Eagle River 15 minutes down-valley.
